Bread mix (pronounced chee-bee) is a unique bread product that comes from the Brazilian "pão de queijo", (cheese bread) and it is now available in the USA!
Made from the tropical manioc plant, a.k.a. cassava or yucca. Ingredients: Manioc (tapioca) flour, modified manioc starch, dry milk, and salt. Package includes directions for rolls or sticks along with tips on making pizza. Their web site, www.chebe.
Manioc is Brazil's answer to French fries. The tuber, also known as cassava root, was the main staple of the Brazilian natives at the time of discovery and has become an important food in all of Brazil.
Omit the cheese and add sugar instead. Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness and spread with margarine. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar (about 1/2 cup or more). Roll up and slice. Bake on a cookie sheet at 400 F for about 15 - 18 minutes.
