In our second installment of chile-infused salads for the summer, we continue our world tour of salad ingredients and styles. Kicking it off is the Many Vegetables Salad, which can be served with any grilled entrees. The many versatile ingredients vary the texture from crunchy to smooth.
We begin our third look at fired-up salads with a collection of hot and spicy salad dressings. Santa Fe Serrano Dressing, with avocado, cilantro, and serranos is great over greens or chilled, cooked vegetables.
Grilling and barbecuing seem to have recurrent side dishes like potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans and the like. They re all usually prepared in the kitchen and have nothing to do with the grill.
And summer for me means moving my "kitchen" outdoors and savoring my meals outside. This includes not only barbecuing and grilling, but also packing up a basket of food, hopping in the car, and taking off for picnic.
If we define a sandwich as two slices of bread filled with a variety of meats, cheeses, relishes, fillings, and/or vegetables, then Rabbi Hillel the Elder was the first recorded creator of the sandwich, in the first century BC.
